You probably have seen some of the food shared here in other food blogs or goes viral around the internet. Penang known as the food paradise is famous for their delicious street food what we Malaysian love the most. During my last trip to Penang, I managed to try out a few of them out of the long list i have gotten from some of my Penang friends and colleagues. 3days in Penang is insufficient to cover the whole list so I will be posting some other options that I did not manage to eat and this serve a guide for those of you who will be traveling to Penang.
Taman Emas Coffee Shop
This asam laksa was introduced by my colleague and I’ve personally tried and love it very much! It is located opposite the Penang Chinese Girls’ High School on Jalan Gottlieb. The portion just nice for you to continue eat the rest of the food below.

Char Koay Teow
Ah Leng Char Koay Teow (亚龙炒粿条）
Ah Leng Char Koay teow is famous for their Mantis Prawn in the ckt. Is slightly more expensive but try it with the duck egg because is something different compared to the ordinary with additional RM 0.50 charged. Their ckt taste just nice, not too salty and is moist.

Penang hokkien mee taste like our Har mee in KL. This is one of the famous hokkien mee in Penang with clear soup base and you can even add char siew to your bowl of noodle.

Tua Pui Curry Mee
One of the popular street food in Penang is their signature Curry Mee that I did not managed to try it during my recent trip. However, these are a few nice ones recommended by the locals 🙂

Duck Kway Chap
This might not be as popular as other street food that we often heard off. Kway Chap is a Chinese, more specifically Teochew, noodle soup that consists of flat wide rice noodle rolls, served in some kind of a meat based broth. It was highly recommended by my friend but I have yet to try it in Penang due to the tight schedule. Feel free to give it a try for those of you who are going to Penang.

Penang Road Famous Teochew Cendol
Food hunting can be tiring and sweaty especially in Malaysia that is pretty much summer all year long. A bowl of cendol is all we need. The iconic Penang Road famous Teochew Cendol with crazy queue during weekends is the popular cendol place in Penang. You can find most of their branches now in the shopping mall around Klang Valley.

Fried Oyster Omelette (Oh Chien)
Kedai Kopi Seng-Thor (成都茶室）
Combination of rice flour batter, chives, egg and oysters, all in one fried over high heat. Is even better if you have few people fighting for one plate of Oh Chien and usually eaten with the chili sauce provided.

Small bites for tea when your had enough of all the heavy dishes for the whole morning. Head over to Jalan Burmah you will see a shiny white van with a young guy (i believe is the son) making few pieces of apom at one go and one old man (the owner) taking orders and packing for customers.

Raja Uda Kwong Wah Tom Yum Noodle
I have yet to try the Tom Yum noodle here but it is in my must try list as well. Slightly further located at the mainland district and only open during night time. If you are craving for supper, this is the place to go.

Burger Ayam Goreng Njoy
Burger Ayam Goreng Njoy is like the Penang version of Ramlee Burger. I heard the queue can be very long and it takes at least 30 mins to get the burger. By looking at their facebook, burgers looks juicy & delicious.

ChinaHouse is a traditional compound of 3 heritage buildings, linked by an open air courtyard and converted into 14 spaces comprising shops, cafes, restaurant, galleries, live music and bakery. Wide selection of cakes and coffees. You name it! Most of them can be found here. I was there during my trip, it was great sipping a cup of coffee & dessert and chatting with couple of friends especially hiding from the hot weather outside. Lazying at the restaurant for the whole noon to prepare my stomach for another round of food hunting in the evening and supper!

Bird Nest is the key ingredient for all their fresh bakes here in 92 Armenian. Their best seller is the Bird’s Nest Egg Tart (RM8/piece) with generous portion of bird’s nest and milky egg filing with short crust pastry. Other than Egg Tart, they have Bird Nest Pineapple Tart, Bird Nest Rice Dumpling, Bird Nest Jelly, Bird Nest Cake & etc that we girls deeply in love !
