Hotel Review: Metro Hotel Myeongdong @ Seoul

Booking a hotel seems straightforward, right? But, have you ever encountered the hotel you booked was way too far from the central district and in the end you spent most of your time travelling on the public transport. This can be really a turn off for your vacation. Hotel industry in Seoul is highly competitive, especially there are many guesthouses and Airbnb around charging cheaper rates. I am so glad and proud of myself that I found Metro Hotel during my recent trip to Seoul. I assure that what you pay is totally worth it.

Metro Hotel, established in 1960, is the first government-registered tourist hotel and it was refurbished in June 2014. If you read reviews on Tripadvisor, Agoda or, you’d probably notice most of them pretty much comment the same thing: “Perfect location in Seoul with lots of shopping and restaurants around the area.” After staying here for almost 5 days, I can’t agree more with the comments.

Metro Hotel is located just a 3-minute walk from Euljiro 1-ga Subway Station (Line 2). By looking at the map below, you know how easy to access landmarks and shopping areas in the heart of Seoul.

The Metro Hotel is rather an unique hotel with futuristic wooden outlook. Lobby/ reception is at Level 9 with the hotel rooms on the proceeding floors. Reception counter is bright and cozy with cute pillows at the sofa in waiting area.

They have a few room types available in Metro Hotel – Standard Queen, Deluxe Queen, Comfort Twin, Family Flex, Family Suite, etc.

We picked Standard Queen Room which is just nice to accommodate 2-3 persons. The room is approximately 18.32 sqm in size. Although it is not big, it is sufficient for us to fit our opened luggage and still left us enough walking space. There is also a separate working desk right next to the bed and each room is equipped with a flat screen TV with cable channels.

The Shopper’s Choice Room

You got the 3-sided mirror for you to dress up in your new purchases in the Shopper’s Choice Room!!

A private bathroom features a toilet with electronic bidet (of course without a bathtub). All toiletries that you need are provided except for toothbrush and toothpaste that you might need to prepare before hand.

Complimentary WiFi is provided at Metro Hotel so you can stay connected throughout your stay here. There is a personal electronic safe for you to store your valuable belongings.

Breakfast @ Clubhouse

The clubhouse is located at the 9th floor where the breakfast buffet is served daily from 7.00am to 10.00 am with a fee. When I say clubhouse please do not get too excited as this is not the usual clubhouse, rather this is more of a pantry or common area for you to refresh yourself with a cup of coffee and a basic breakfast to start your day. I believe all guests should have access to this area regardless of what room rate you paid but please check with the reception upon check-in.

The playroom is at Level 2 for those of you travel with kids. Parents can spend some time with their children here. Happy kid happy parents aite!

Terrace Lounge

There are times where you wake up in the middle of the night looking for some cup noodles but too lazy to walk out your hotel? This is the place fix your midnight cravings with vending machines, microwave, water/ice cube dispenser, etc. ready for you. The best thing to know is they are all complimentary!

Coin Laundry Room, Gym with simple equipments, Meeting Room are available in Metro Hotel too.

The housekeeping ahjumas are very friendly as well as the staff in Metro Hotel. They try their best to converse in English in order to reduce communication gap. Security guards are always polite and helpful. Thanks Sky for showing us around and make us feel like home. I will definitely return to Metro Hotel if I ever visit Seoul again!
